Work I of VII · The Rainbow
In the Red
Red · E. Vane, 2026
£50,000
Executed upon acquisition. Collectors are afforded fourteen days in which to reflect.
The first of seven works comprising The Rainbow. Executed in red, and only red. Edition of one.
Red has been made from crushed insects, from mercury, and from lead. Vermilion was once worth its weight in silver; cochineal required seventy thousand beetles to the pound. The gallery has used a tube.
Priced by the history of the pigment. Released first, because Newton said so. No work is created speculatively; each piece is executed within fourteen days of acquisition, and collectors are afforded fourteen days in which to reflect.
